Pirates

Posted on Friday, April 8th, 2011

We came through the pirate waters of the Arabian Sea off the coast of Yemen without incident.  There were precautions taken by Captain Wells, such as eliminating exterior lighting for several nights and some razor wire strung on the afterdeck.  Also, there are special forces from the British army on board.   We were in Aqaba today.  A lot of us went to Petra,  I was there ten years ago, but a lot more has been excavated since that time.  I’m sure that in five or more years, the changes will be as dramatic as the last ten.  It is amazing how these nomadic people could have carved these magnificent structures out of the limestone… it’s the pyramids all over again!

Landmarks

The Opera House is to Sydney as the Eiffel Tower is to Paris.  The opera was “Carmen”, but anything would be wonderful in this magnificent building!

The Queen Mary 2 was in port at the same time.  How exciting is that?

Shopping in Sydney is nice, as well.
