Florence Travel: Things to Do When You Are There
I left Venice by train and went to Florence. The transfer went smooth as silk with me being escorted to my seat and picked up at the car door when I arrived. The suitcases stayed right next to my very comfortable seat.
Beautiful Hotel Pierre in Florence
When we arrived at the Hotel Pierre my Guide, Katia had lunch with me and then we took off walking. And we walked, and it rained, and we walked some more and it rained some more.
We saw a beautiful palace with gorgeous rooms full of priceless art, cathedrals, did some leather shopping and didn’t get back to the hotel until after 7 PM.
I was pooped.
I soaked in a hot tub and was down for the count.
Rubbing a Wild Boar’s Nose for Good Luck
The next morning, Thursday, I was met again by Katia and it was not raining.
We visited the wild boar, a bronze symbol of Florence, rubbed his nose for good luck and walked another few miles. I’m getting good at this walking thing. It’s a brand new concept to me. I’m not saying I’m going to make a habit of it but I am happy to say I can do it.
We went to the Academia and saw David. It was magnificent.
Then some more walking and back to the hotel just in time to be picked up for my drive to Pisa.
Pisa’s Leaning Tower
Boy this was a surprise, Pisa was beautiful.
I thought all I would see was a leaning tower. Not true!
There was also an unbelievable cathedral, a huge Baptistery and a beautiful cemetery.
All in all, it was more than worth the vacation.
“If You Don’t Like it Rare, Don’t Order It!”
Dinner tonight was shared by Katia and me.
The local beef is very famous, very delicious and very rare.
They will only cook it one way.
If you don’t like it rare then don’t order it. That’s what they will tell you.
Tomorrow I get driven to Siena and passed off to another excellent team of driver and tour guide, then visit Tuscany.
Oh, I almost forgot the most important thing.
THE GELATO IS TO DIE FOR.
