Chapter 5. Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast
Queen Margareta’s Pizza
“My adventure vacation continues as I leave Rome and travel South. On the way to Sorrento, I made a stop in Naples for a walking tour and lunch in a wonderful Pizzeria. I now know why the Margareta Pizza is so named. The first Pizza was made for Queen Margareta and was pita bread with tomato, mozzarella, and basil.
Those are the colors of the Italian Flag and it was first served to her in Napoli.
Pompeii, Buried under Volcanic Ash
After lunch, we had a short drive to Pompeii. I loved the history and everything I saw but the day turned very warm and my pain pill wore off. That air conditioned car was the best thing I had ever seen. The Mercedes soft seats ran the AC a close second.
I arrived in Sorrento just in time to meet Ninett, my dinner companion. Dinner was wonderful, as always, and I have been invited back as a guest of the owner. I am now Familia.
Ferry to the Isle of Capri
The next day, Thursday, I took a “fast boat” ferry to the Isle of Capri.
What a beautiful place!
The highlight of the day was a boat ride around the island and entry into the blue grotto.

What an experience. Breathtaking!!!
Exploring the Amalfi Coast with its Most Beautiful Coastline
Friday morning I was picked up for a full day drive around the Amalfi Coast.
This was one of my favorite days.
Not only was very little walking involved but it was probably the most beautiful coastline I have ever seen.
We ate at another family restaurant in Positano and now I’m family again. If I ever do come back to Italy, I will have lots of Familia to “look up”. And they are all good cooks.
The Emerald Grotto
We also visited another grotto. The Emerald Grotto.
To tell the truth, they were both the same color but this time it was a gift from my Guide.
I had a private boat and was serenaded. Very special and quite a surprise.
After I got back to the hotel, I packed and got to bed early. I have to get up at 5:30 AM. My vacation in Italy is over. I can’t believe it.”
